As the school year comes to a close, it’s time to start thinking about the summer adventures that await! Here at ATX Jerky, we consider ourselves experts in two things: jerky (of course) and the beautiful state of Texas (she’s a beauty!). This summer, we want to show you all the adventures to be had in the Lone Star State and how you can take us with you all summer long. This month, learn about the 3 best hikes in Southern Texas.
- Guadalupe Peak – At the highest point in Texas is Guadalupe Peak. Perfect for the avid hiker, this 8.5 mile hike is a hard path to track with a 3,000 ft elevation gain, it would take about six to eight hours to complete. Though a tough path, the views seen from above are well worth it, with clear days featuring views of the surrounding mountains and desert.
- Jacob’s Well – Located on an 81 acre natural area in Wimberley, TX is Jacob’s Well, an artesian spring that features underwater caves, hill country views, and diverse nature. After a 15 minute hike, you’ll reach the 140 ft deep swimming hole where you can watch and admire from above or jump in and explore if you’re an experienced enough swimmer. With its many trails to choose from there are plenty of things to discover in the area.
- Hamilton Preserve – Located by Dripping Springs TX, about 30 miles from Austin, is Hamilton Preserve. After a 1.8 mile (about 43 minutes long) hike you are met with a gorgeous 50 ft. waterfall that mirrors the infamous Cenotes of Mexico, a gorgeous sight to see as you hike the trail. It is also a part of the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan, due to its housing a rare species of birds.
